Subject Delta and Eleanor not being the first pair bond is one of my biggest issue as it undermines their relationship

I think of BaS as Levine basically just setting the Bioshock brand on fire (by killing any characters with any development, writing out Bioshock 2, and turning B1-Infinite into a closed narrative loop) before he left. Keeps other development studios from playing with his toys. Franchise arson, basically.

I'm only a little over halfway through the video, but it's amazing how much this DLC just sounds like fanfiction where Elizabeth is the cool OC who gets to meet all the cool characters and has like SUPERPOWERS and TRAGICALLY DIES but then she's BACK and she just KNOWS things because she's so BRILLIANT and all the Bioshock 1 characters LOVE her but she's the agent of their DEMISE because she's SO BADASS and... god, how tiring. Considering all the in-depth work that went into making Elizabeth likeable because Infinite basically hinged on players liking her, this is a hilariously traditional Mary Sue turn.

The one thing i will NEVER forgive burial at sea for is that retconing of bioshock 2, for no reason the dlc seemed to hate that game with a passion and went out of its way to ignore it. Considering how bioshock 2 has been reevaluated as a great game in recent times it being ignored feels more like a spite move from Levine because he didn't have anything to do with it. Funny how bioshock 2 has become more beloved in recent years despite its rocky reception at the time, while infinite has gotten less love as the years go on

I always hated how the ending of BaS does the opposite of what the ending of Infinite does.

Infinite created an infinite universe of possibilities. While BaS makes the universe smaller taking away those possibilities and forces the games to be tied together for no reason except Ken Levine really wanted Elizabeth to be the most important character in Bioshock lore.

Undermining the whole central theme of Jack's character arc in Bioshock 1 because the whole point of that was him finally being free and overcoming the man who controlled him.

The BaS portrays Elizabeth makes her so hard to like or to root for and knowing how fond Ken is of her, it’s probably not an intentional detail either. She goes on about getting justice against Comstock but she’s a bloody quantum goddess and she knew how guilt-ridden he was yet still goes out of her way to make him suffer. Plus she refuses to acknowledge she’s in the wrong here...

When Frank looks like a hero next to you, that’s just bad writing.

The original trailer for BaS made me think this was just gonna be a side story set in Rapture where a version of Booker and Elizabeth simply want to escape the city before all hell breaks loose. "The girl promises me way out and I was desperate enough to believe her."

The first episode also seems to set up that Elizabeth is trapped because Suchong built a siphon device by studying tears. And that would also be the reason her powers are back to simple little tear openings.
But that possible foreshadowing went nowhere.

The sad thing is that it seems this was the initial idea for the dlc. Recovered files still present in the game show Booker was still alive for part 2 and was going through a redemption arc in trying to save Sally. Without also seemingly messing up too much of the established canon.

But somewhere (evidently late in development) Ken Levine seems to got a massive obsession with Elizabeth's role being the center of the original BioShock.

When I beat these games I thought to myself:
Is this awful writing, or am I stupid?
Thank you for confirming I was right on both!

This game and its DLC was the story that made me realize that Time Travel is a terrible storytelling tool.

It's not that it's bad in and of itself it's that it allows people to screw up the themes of earlier stories. As well as being generally lazy by failing to account for logical consequences of such things.

Especially the fact that Burial at Sea made the sacrifice at the end of Infinite pointless. If it worked, episode 1 would literally be impossible.

I feel it's like Ridley Scott and the Aliens films that followed, he made two questionable prequels that were interested in decrediting AvP and emphasising his fascination with his character of David, to the point he attributes David to the creation of the xenomorphs, which contradicts the eggs in his original Alien film being thousands of years old.
