  No matter your taste in music, we all agree that this song, cover or not, is one of the most heart-breaking pieces of music ever recorded. No matter how many times I hear it, I still choke up.<br><br>Rock in Peace, Johnny Cash.

  This is a legendary man saying goodbye to all of us. &nbsp; Icon isn&apos;t the right word for Cash. &nbsp;One of the most incredible artists ever.

  What gets me everytime. Trent Reznor, from nine in nails, the original writer. Has said that it is not his song anymore. Its Johnny’s. And i tear up everytime i hear it

  For me, both the NIN version and the Cash version compliment each other, with the former being about regret at the height of one&apos;s fame, while the later is about regret at the twilight of one&apos;s career. Both interpretations are powerful testaments to the genius Trent Reznor is as a lyricist, and that very few can embody the spirit of &quot;Hurt&quot;, like Johnny Cash can.

  When he sings about the needle, he&apos;s also speaking from his own personal experience. This song is so much deeper for the fact that Cash lived, suffered, and battled his own demons

  He was in pain and had to film the video from his house because he was homebound. His wife was with him and you could see the concern and pain she felt too. She died a few months later and Johnny followed her soon after. &nbsp;I know you won&apos;t answer anymore, but I feel you&apos;re still listening. RIP J.S.

  I call this a &quot;Real cry &quot; song. Everyone even crusty old men need a good cry every once in a while then we get ourselves right and muscle on.

  Many people don&apos;t know the significance of the little white wooden house they drive past, then Jonny walks up to a window and looks in.<br>That is the house Jonny was born and raised in. It was later washed away in a flood.

  Rick Rubin&apos;s vision to bring Johnny Cash &apos;back&apos; to this generation is outstanding. Obviously the courage of Johnny Cash to embark on this project is also amazing.
