I am considering doing another Strange Laws in Japan episode featuring some of the laws shared in the comments. Should I do another one and if so, what's the strangest Japanese law you know?

American here in Japan. My wife (Japanese) told me that if I forgot my ID and I get stopped by the police (which is rare), tell them you left it at home and give them your address or phone number. I've never had much trouble with them, and have been here for a little over 20 years. You definitely don't want to mess with immigration/customs in Japan. I've seen it happen with some "entitled" Americans at immigration. Talking loud, arguing, or "playing the victim" won't work in Japan.

The one law that has bothered me the most is ( imagine you are driving on your lane perfectly, then a drunk and unlicensed driver coming towards you on the opposite lane crosses over and crashes into you. You are still partially at fault for just being there ). It's almost like the insurance industry wrote this law, so we still have to use our insurance and they can charge us more going forward.

Woof! You’re preaching brother. I’ve been trapped in an unending virtual labyrinth with the Japan Health Agency. I have asthma and if I don’t take my meds…I die. I’m also at the start of a round the world adventure that starts in, Japan. So I’m traveling with months worth of asthma meds. I’m trying to be a respectful and diligent traveler so I filled out my online form to import more than 30 days worth of medication. OMG, I no longer worry about dying from asthma as the JHA has driven me to drink and no doubt I will die from liver failure before I even set foot in Japan. Great videos. Big fan.

Wow! I had almost forgotten about the Pachinko parlors! I can attest to the honesty factor. I had a friend who lost his wallet full of cash somewhere between a bar he’d been drinking at and the Navy base. It was returned to him with every single dollar still inside.

4:00 - aside from Anglo-Saxon countries, having to provide prove of identity at all times is a general obligation, so not just in Japan, but e.g. also in all of continental Europe. The odd ones out are the US, UK etc who strangely do not have such requirement. 10:00 - same in Germany, riding a bike drunk gets your license revoked, as you participate in traffic

I think Japan is a bit weird with the smoking but I think it’s make sense to have smoking clutters and rooms rather than some random smoking on the street

10:55 In my opinion, getting your wallet returned works in Japan not because of any law but because of the culture.
The difference may be going through the police more often. In Germany, I've received my wallet back twice by getting call from the finder. But that also fits with Japanese culture in that they don't like dealing with strangers.

I am originally Canadian and live 15 years in the USA. Once I moved to Japan, I did not feel like a sucker giving to the police a wallet full if cash. I even gave it to a taxi driver to bring it to the police.

Once in the train, 3 young Chinese stood up and walked out. One of them had dropped his wallet from his back pocket. I yelled "Chinese, Chinese" and threw it at him..... I am a white guy so he assumed that I was a honest tourist. I am actually a Japanese citizen.

Now you forgot on strange law passed in the early 2000s. Lock Picking tools are forbidden in Japan!!!! Like a gun, you need a licence.
