"Desperate people work harder for less pay! Let's make all young people in our country desperate!"

The argument that “local people don’t want to work hard jobs” has been used before in many countries; it usually drives attention away from the fact that those jobs pay way below what they should, while expecting double the productivity and engagement, something that people dependent on a visa, without a sphere of support in the country (eg family) and with limited language, have to put up with just to survive.

this is exactly what i've been saying. if they want adapted foreigners that can speak japanese, why are they getting rid of longer term residents in favour of short term laborers?

If someone isn’t allowed to stay long they won’t invest much in community to stay longer.

The Dutch too tried the 'guest worker' thing, it doesn't work the way you want. People want to build a life where their work is. They start relationships, friendships, even families, and then you want to kick them out again. It doesn't pan out the way you want.

the young doesn't want to work hard job is a myth or overexaggerated at best, it just a way to keep the wages down.

I stayed at the Asakusa Tobu hotel. The maid told me that the entire cleaning staff of 33 is Vietnamese.

My friend has been living in Tokyo for 20 years and she has a child.
Her salary is around 240 000 jpy and she must stay in a black company where she gets bullied because no other company wants her with a child.
Her partner needs to come home earlier to pick up the child from the kindergarten so he earns around 150 -170 000 jpy.
They can barely survive

It's worth noting that back in the day many korean immigrant women worked at connivence stores. When politians were making a stink over koreans/refusing to raise wages, a lot of these women protested for better working conditions and equal rights. A lot of the reason connivence stores are the way they are now is because of immigrants. To be honest, I participated in the JET program and my application was refused multiple times because I talked about wanting to step into the workforce in Japan in marketing/advertisement. The one time I got accepted was because I said I wanted to visit Japan and show them tourists aren't all bad. Talking to some of the people here, maybe 10% of the teachers actually want to live in Japan long-term. I think these programs only hiring people who want to stay short-term doesn't really help. Especially when they don't offer to assist with staying in Japan. I asked about PR and VISA related stuff and they told me I was on my own or to hire legal council by myself. No assistance at all in terms of being an interpreter or getting the right paperwork. I think more people would come to stay long term if there were clear avenues to take.

You cannot fix real problem so you just need scapegoat, it is usual politics, short term policy at expense of long term future

Many Japanese companies treat their own people like trash, goverment treating non Japanese as they do is not really a surprise. Japan has very good cultural aspects but no one talks about the bad stuff which is the main cause of the issue.

Yeah... my problem is how Japan categorizes "foreigners" - as if we're all one big unhappy family.
