In the supposed Guynemer vs. Udet duel (a meeting we only have Udet's postwar account of), it was Udet who had his guns jam and Guynemer who spared him.

39:43 "Balloon busting" was very hazardous, since the Germans protected their observation balloons with flak and fighter aircraft.

My father was able to recount the shooting down of the zeppelin over London, as a wee child being held up in his mother’s arms, to see the burning zeppelin falling to earth.

He got the guynmemer- udet dog fight wrong. Udet's guns jammed, it was Guynmemer that saw. He flew past udet, went inverted, and waved to him . They both went back to their bases.
