A lot of people talk about cycling, but they don't talk about stable parameters<br><br>With small tanks this isn't really an issue, but add about 100-200 pounds of rockscape into your tank and it will soak up a lot of your magnesium<br><br>You will end up dosing so much to get the magnesium back up to 1350ppm-1400ppm that adding fish or more vulnerable lifeforms will end up doing a lot of harm or killing them<br><br>So my best beginner advice is cycle your tank and monitor the parameters (temperature, salinity, alkalinity, magnesium and calcium) and than add lifeforms when its stable<br><br>I could not figure out why my tank was struggling and the only thing you hear is "keep up with your water changes and cycle your tank" nobody told me that a big rockscape and thick sandbed soaks up magnesium

i love all your videos, you are a great info source! My comment though is that established water does not void a cycle. The bacteria lives on the rocks and sump rocks. Those are the most important!
