All this and not one mention of the Malmedy massacre. My wife's uncle Grover was shot in the head at the Malmedy massacre by one of Joachim Peiper's men from Kampfgruppe Peiper, at the Baugnez crossroads near St. Vith, Belgium, on December 17, 1944. He survived the wound and was carried by a group of survivors from the 285th Forward Artillery Observation Battalion on a makeshift stretcher. He was attached to the 285th Forward Observation Battalion as a runner from the 80th Infantry Division, and knew where the American lines were. For his actions that day he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals both of which I have to this day along with all of what remains of his Army records. His brother, Cecil, my wife's father, was with Company L, 29th Infantry Division, 116th Infantry Regiment, that went in with the 1st Infantry Division on the first wave at Omaha Beach. He never got wounded throughout the whole war. Cheers from an old Marine sergeant/Vietnam vet in eastern TN
