  The deal was initially panned by most Americans and they called the purchase “Seward’s Folly” because they thought he was an idiot to buy Alaska at all.  Time has proven that Seward quite literally struck gold with the purchase.  Including black gold.

  Did you know that Alaska before being offered to US it was offered to Lichtenstein, but they declined the purchase
