Meister Eckhart’s teaching on detachment (Abgeschiedenheit) argues that true greatness stems from freeing the soul of all worldly attachments, allowing it to become a pure vessel for the divine. Detachment creates an inner stillness, or "emptiness," which enables individuals to live without a "why," resulting in profound joy, freedom, and union with God

As a man in his sixties, I remember experiencing multiple moments of detachment in different stages of my life. I was raised in a family of stone masons and taught meditation and yoga at a young age 1976. I remember awakening and seeing the world like it was for the first time. Another moment came while serving in the military, 1987 in the Philippines among the truly meek and deeply religious. I lived like a king compared to them. Overcoming militarism was a restoration of who I was before; my true nature before my attachments. I renounced my service to empire and returned a transformed being. My final detachment to myself is striping away.......

For someone who tried by all means in their 'youth' to earn enough to live on, but did not succeed and needs to continue working it does not mean they cannot pursue their hobby and show it off and feel proud that they are able to market it and get good acclaim.

Like two book ends in the Ten Commandments the tenth being covetousness which equates to desire and the first being Idolatry which equates to the attachment.

Moved back to care for elderly parents, hoping to earn sainthood. I reached a point where I had to be honest with myself. Why? I came to the conclusion that I wanted to.
