That queue on Half Dome in summer conditions is simply another version of the queue on Mt. Everest in winter conditions.

Have a simple rule when it comes hiking. Never do any hike that takes me anywhere near cliffs.

I love Yosemite, having been there several times. However, climbing Half Dome never appealed to me.  The trails are wonderful, but I can see where it could become dangerous due to weather, it was difficult enough walking up the mist from the waterfall.  I am sorry for this family, such a beautiful family.  Wish they would have been cautious, turned around and gone down the mountain.

I have a photo poster of lightening striking Half Dome. I’ve camped across the valley from Half Dome. I would not want to be there in a thunder storm.

Can't understand why anyone would subject themselves to that. Waiting in a long queue to assend, hoping no one falls back on you. No thanks.

I have been there, one slip and you’re dead. For stupid people, who are surrounded by other stupid people who just might slip and knock you off.

I knew a family who went zip lining in Mexico during vacation. They could all see a thunderstorm coming in. They asked if it was safe and the attendants assured them it was safe. Well, the entire family was hit by lightning while on the line. They ended up with various injuries but the worst was one of the kids went into cardiac arrest and the dad (a police officer) had to perform CPR. It took an hour to get to an emergency room but they all survived and fully recovered!

I've been on Half Dome in the late1970s and camped at the nearest backcountry camp so started up at 9am.  Back then there weren't the crowds. If I was still physically able, I wouldn't ever go up Half Dome with all those people. It is not the same. People are treating it as an amusement park. What is happening in Yosemite this summer with no entrance control is pathetic and very sad. I used to work near Yosemite and the T storms can come up out of no where and they can be fierce.

I feel like the Summit of Half dome is like that Indiana Jones movie where Indy is reaching for the Holly Grail and Sean Connery's character, his father says, "Indy, let it go". As in turn back. You hit your summit, farthest you can go and know you will come home. That's your summit, summit reached.

I live in the SF Bay Area. Been to Yosemite a few times in my life. No way I'm doing that. The idea of risking death at that height isn't my idea of a fun vacation time, no matter the weather condition. And I know I'm in better shape than a lot of ppl in the B roll in this vid.
