Fun fact about the final Phantom fight. The glass floor at the center of the arena can break if you manage to get the overgrown spider to jump on it enough. Once it breaks, you win the fight. This is one of the only fights where you can win without attacking even ONCE.

What I really like about DMC1 is that this game is the completion of Dante's personal character arc (A weird move considering that this was the first DMC game). At the start of DMC3, we see an uncaring, selfish hunter who sees demons as monstrous beasts and goes into solitude to find the murderer of his family, Mundus.

Agni & Rudra: "Impressive."

Dante (DMC3): Smashes them together "No Talking!"

Eventually, Dante learns about the value of compassion through seeing Lady's struggling against odds that she can't solve by herself alone, and learns that bringing Vergil back to the light and saving him from his self-hatred is a serious job at the end of DMC3. But in DMC1, after defeating Griffon and seeing that the Thunderbird is still loyal to his master even in death, instead of cracking jokes like his usual self,

Griffon: "I cannot let you live... For I serve my master Mundus!!"

Dante (DMC1): "No!! You can't fight with that wound!!"

Then Mundus appears and executes Griffon for being weak in defeating Dante. After Griffon's death, we see a person who used to hate demons and saw them as obstacles to cut through in reaching his nemesis, mourning the death of a demon who honorably fought to the death.

In DMC1, through seeing the redeeming qualities of Trish, Nelo Angelo, and Griffon, and seeing the purely fiendish actions of Mundus, Dante finally learns the difference between demons and devils, redeemable bad guys and irredeemable monsters, and finally learning that even a Devil May Cry.

One of the special subtle things that make the OG devil may cry special is the fact that Hideki Kamiya basically grew up in the arcade. He brings a lot of arcade game sensibilities to the project and this is something that doesn't happen anymore. Electric Underground does a great video going into details

There's a hidden 100 red orbs in the first main room. If you jump up to the top of the statues lance.

Agreed, 1's vibes are awesome. I love the way the castle warps when you return to it at night. Dante even comments on it when you try to interact with walls where doors used to be.
Hopefully a future DMC game can bring that back, not necessarily for its entirety, but like a select few missions at least. Triple down on the horror, yet allow Dante to balance it out by being his goofy self Itsuno cemented

Someone has probably said this already, but the frost enemies suck mainly if you try to fight them with Alastor. If you use Ifrit, since fire beats ice, they die pretty quickly. I think using Ifrit on the electric mimic / bat enemies also makes fighting them easier, since Alastor's element is electricity, I think Alastor does less damage to them.

You probably wont see this comment since the video is fairly old now, but Im curious why you think dante turns into a dragon, and doesn't just throw a dragon. Still unexplained and strange, but if you pause your video at 49:47 ish, and watch it back slowly, as you say "Looks cool", you can see dante is still there on the left, behind the dragon thing.

20 years later, Devil May Cry 3 Dante’s Awakening on PlayStation 2 still ages well and one of the greatest video games ever made! Ninja Gaiden 4 on Steam/PC thankfully I’d say comes close to it thanks to its gameplay, graphics and especially godlike music soundtrack!!!!!

    Few corrections

9:28 SEVERED demon heads, the bodies are decapitated. Also, the bottles are clearly Jack Daniels.

12:20 It's actually more punishing. If you lose all Yellow Orbs, you have to reload a save file. Not a problem nowadays but imagine it's 2001 & you haven't bought a memory card or you do have a memory card but don't have enough space.

18:50 You don't need to interact with The Pride of Lion to open the door. You can just examine the door.

45:53 Nightmare can do this in all 3 fights. 1st fight, he has Phantom inside, 2nd fight is Griffon.

49:31 You do not need Devil Trigger to damage Mundus. Once you destroy the 4 orbs, you can damage him. Dante also doesn't turn into a dragon, he summons & fire 1 at him.
