  as an 18 year old girl living in the heart of tokyo for college, i will never feel safe walking anywhere in a highly populated city at night. i’ve had multiple men insistently hit on me, and follow me for a little bit too… i think many people have this idea in their minds that japan is a super duper safe nation, when in reality it’s no different than any other country.

  I’ve witnessed “scouting” as you called it in Kyoto. A young adult woman coming from train chased down by guy. She did similar maneuver to slip through crowd and she was telling him to go away. She seemed capable and confident so I didn’t do anything but part of me wishes my friend and I had ganged up on him and yelled till she got away. I’d never seen anything quite like it before.

  I love the fact that Norm brought a whole crew for this, shows that they were completely ready to stance up if anyone had actually tried to pull something on Sherry. &nbsp;Especially by the way they actually did have to intervene with that other dude chasing that girl.

  Wow! Thank you, Norm. &nbsp;This was an eye-opener. &nbsp;I travel alone, so this is valuable info for a single woman. &nbsp;Watching your &quot;walking around at night&quot; videos, I thought Japan was mostly safe, but I was shocked by the guys chasing girls down. &nbsp;That&apos;s scary.

  A few weeks ago, I finally made my dream of visiting Japan come true. I travelled solo for two weeks, starting and ending my stay at a hotel right in the heart of Kabukicho, Shinjuku. I&apos;m typically very confident walking alone at night as a solo female traveller — but not this time. I was chased by men, followed wherever I went in that location, and at times, I felt very unsettled by the relentlessness of it. Thank you so much for making this video!! I think it will really help bring specific attention to this for women travelling on their own in that area. You hear of scams etc around there, but not much specifically warned of how targeted the harassment would be for a solo female traveller, so you&apos;ve done a great job with this 💜

  Years ago I was a college student doing a study abroad program in Japan. A couple of my friends and I one night wanted to go out to Shinjuku to grab dinner. As we were walking, I felt a very firm grasps on my wrist. It didn&apos;t hurt, but whoever was holding it, didn&apos;t want to let go. I turned around and saw that it was a salaryman (apparently weekend drinking starts on Thursday). He was about to drag me off somewhere until his friend shortly came up and pulled him off of me. I was in complete shock and to this day I still think about it.
