I don't find his philosophy dark or scary at all. In fact, I find it freeing or liberating not boring or mundane. His philosophy is a breath of fresh air!

This video is gold and helps me immensely through my current existential crisis. I am halfway through and I am hooked on his ideas, his thoughts, his views.

I think repeatedly suggesting that Mainlander may have been mentally ill risks explaining away his philosophy through retrospective diagnosis. His suicide and family history are biographically relevant, but neither proves that his philosophical conclusions resulted from mental illness. At the same time, his considerable intellectual and practical functioning working in banking, serving in the military, studying extensively, engaging seriously with the condition of workers, and producing a systematic philosophical work doesn't prove he wasn't depressed either. Highly capable people can suffer from severe depression. The more important distinction is between the psychological state of the philosopher and the validity of his arguments. Even if Mainlander suffered from depression, his philosophy should be answered philosophically, not diagnosed away psychologically.

Mainländer killed himself, but his book survived. Isn’t the survival of his book a sign that he was wrong?

Why is it that the Germans always put a damper on everything?

Buddhists call the end-point Phil reached "The poison of Sunyata" (emptiness). Phil should have arrived at Compassion, but flubbed it.
