Dad of three small kids. I'm able to play at night after they go to bed. It is lots of fun but I have definitely sacrificed sleep. Like a lot of sleep.

A working dad's review is EXACTLY what I needed (I'm an unemployed son)

Long-term player here, some generators can fuel the base for up-to 31 days. I know others like myself will shutdown the crafting stations etc and run our bases on standby, logging in once a month to refuel the base.

If that still sounds like too much, you can follow steps to backup the whole base into the base reconstruction tool - everything is saved including storage contents.

End-game specialization grind doesn't respect your time, but I enjoy running dungeons. Deep Desert can be brutal if you forget to pack away your base each week or if something goes wrong and you can't login with enough time to pack the base away.

The game is fun and well done. I’m a huge fan of Conan exiles. The main problem I have with Dune is that there are no NPC‘s to put around my base so it just feels very empty. If they add NPC’s either like Conan exiles does or even in shrouded this could be one of my favorite games..

I'm not a dad but my interests in games and preferences in how they play/respect your time completely align with dad gamers apparently. So I greatly appreciate the analysis!

Single working dad here and I have time to play my games as long as my kids are done with their homework we all play together. We play dozens of games every week and dune on a private server we can do what ever we want without the headache of other players. And we can’t wait till September 22. Game on 😊

I started playing this last week, I'm a dad with grown kids but still have limited game time, I jumped in and learned quickly to keep the fuel loaded. I had that issue with V Rising, I lost power for two weeks, and by the time I was able to return my castle was gone, my two friends that I was playing with moved on to a different game and left me hanging. I put so much into it that I did not want to start over, so I left it. I have dedicated until July 27th to play this, and I store my base as much as I can remember to do it.

small annotation: your base will not decay over time, as long as your generators are fueled (they power the shield that protects the base from sandstorms).
In the deep desert (you will go there later in the game) it's different, but I will not go into details here. So, if you put enough fuel into the generators to keep them running for let's say 30 days, your base will start to decay only after tose 30 days. (you mentioned that, but maybe it wasn't clear enough for people who don't know the game). 21 days is not the longest possible period, you can go way longer.
I am not a dad, but my brother is. He, his wife and me are a small guild in Dune Awakening, we have around 700 hrs under our belts and are still enjoying the experience. We play at weekends and another two or three hours in the week whenever possible. So, not on a daily base, but every now and then, let's say three times a week, with longer sessions on the weekend.
Playing solo is possible and fun, but in the long run playing with a group (even a small group like us) is more fun and later in the game (again, deep desert is what I am talking about) recommended. The main story (you have to play that solo) is pretty good as well.
Have fun out there, and don't forget: the spice must flow.
