For the Never Ending Story, I think it’s more specifically grief, not just depression. It’s the internal working of the boy reading the story, and the loss of his mother. You can’t let the loss swallow you up.

Children’s movies today lack that delicious trauma that sticks with you forever.

The part that always upset me in neverending story was when the rockbiter talked about his big strong hands not being strong enough to hold onto his little friends.

Nothing breaks my heart quite like Little Foot watching his mother dying. "I'll be with you... even if you can't see me." 😭

I think that in the Neverending Story, the “giving it a name” is not referring to naming a person but naming the condition. Some people don’t know what’s wrong with them and being told “you’re not imaging it, it’s called this”, is an important first step for a lot of people

My parents told me I wasn’t bothered at all when E.T. died, but I was inconsolable when he went home. I was three.

Just here to inform people who did not read The Never Ending Story, Artax speaks in the book... he speaks while sinking in the swamp...

Even to this day, when The Land Before Time is on telly, I will bawl my eyes out. I'm 46. Definitely my childhood trauma movie.

Don Bluth really knew how to pull at those heartstrings. Land Before Time, American Tale, Secret of NIHM, and All Dogs go to Heaven really captured something significant for kids that were sometimes almost too dark but pertaining to aspects of life kids needed to experience in-pretend. ET & The Neverending Story also encapsulate that almost too dark, but just enough. It's what I think is missing in a lot of kids media now. Going back to folklore & fairytales, we've always taught kids things that were important, dark, but necessary.

I'd like to think what you thought of The Wild Robot.
