Actually Goldfinger made the Bond series a global hit, which is why Thunderball was rushed into production and released just one year later.

I think knowing that the special effects were NOT done by computers gives them a Special Quality that does not always exist Today.

The B-17 actually came from where I worked, Intermountain Aviation, Marana, Arizona, during the sixties. I was the mechanic for the plane during the development of the Skyhook System. We practiced picking up dummies before the Bond film. It's quite a set up in the plane. Notice the "N" number on the tail is missing, it's N809Z. The scene was done in one take.

My cousin knew someone involved with the filming of the underwater battle. He said that in the scene where the speargun hits someone in the back and all the bubbles exploded out, it was a mistake. The bolt was supposed to go into a block of wood on the stuntman's back, but it missed the wood and hit his air regulator instead. The scene was left in because it was a good visual, but it could have been deadly if it had hit the stuntman.
