I think it is easily explained by thinking of color biases. Know your biases and how strong they are. Cad Yellow Light + Cobalt both have green bias (they don't carry red) so they are the brightest (in intensity) green together. Once you introduce the third primary into a mix, the intensity drops down (perhaps that is what you want). Cad Med Yellow + Ultramarine Blue both have hidden red, so you have a blue + yellow + hidden red = all three primaries, so a duller less intense green.

I learned color theory via the Munsell system and it was very straightforward to understand it in an academic sense.

Excellent. You’ve well thought out your color choices. Actually, an extended primary palette? Glad I found you. Hope I come across some of your portraits. Thanks for sharing.<br>Onward……..Ma-roux-sha

A simple but powerful thing: I love how you displayed the overlay text for Hue, Saturation and Value by colouring the letters according to hue, saturation and value - the picture now in my mind is memorable.

People who bash Ivory Black because is too dark or neutral or something are the same people who use power colors like a cadmium orange and see no problem with that. Ivory Black is a tool, not the end result necessarely. Same for Cad. Orange. Both are "problematic", but both are useful (Black much more in my opinion). I also find Yellow Ochre + Burnt Sienna + Ivory Black the mos useful earth colors. I just substituted them for their closer cousins, if you will, because of handling, feel, dring time, etc, which are Raw Sienna, Vandyke Brown and Lamp Black, all Winsor Newtow because that's whats available where I live. I use Manganese Blue hue + Ultramarine Blue for blues. And for Green i use Phthalo Emerald PG36, such a nice behaving color, nothing like Phthalo Green PG7. Thanks for the video!
