They're working on a movie now called Combat Control. I don't think it's out yet though, but it's about Chapman. This wasn't the first ever Medal of Honor. It was the first recorded Medal of Honor. So this is the first time we've been able to see the actions that led to someone getting the Medal of Honor.

There’s a lot of bravery here but I want to highlight someone specifically another Air Force man named Jason Cunningham he was a pararescueman new guy. Jason was on the helicopter that landed with the rangers and began treating wounded on the impact basically. He was shooting, moving wounded to safer positions, shooting some more to go grab another wounded guy take them to cover he did this nonstop even when he himself was wounded. He then realized he was hit and the ranger medic wanted to treat him he refused medical care and continued to fight and take care of his patients. At the end of the battle he was exhausted and bleeding out his eyes were fading and 30 minutes before extract he fell asleep never to wake up again. For his actions he was awarded the Air Force Cross. The team leader also received the Medal of Honor the entire SEAL team had Navy Crosses unknown amount of bronze stars with a V for Valor and Silver Stars with V for Valor and most men got Purple Hearts which indicates you are wounded. Let’s just say it was hard to not award every man a MoH bc they all fought like enraged animals on Roberts Ridge. God bless them all🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Chapman wasn't the only hero on the mountain that day Jason D cunningham. Airman pararescue, carried multiple soldiers to safety while under fire from rpg and gun fire, stabilized some of them from their injuries, all that while wounded. then finally bled out and died. He chose to save other people's lives before his.

Pararescue motto " so that others may live". Lived up to his name.

It's complicated. The location was their assigned observation post. When they got there it was already occupied by enemy combatants. Their helicopter was hit on the attempted insertion damaging it and knocking their team mate out. The helicopter made it a few miles away and did a controlled crash. They waited until another helicopter arrived to rescue them, they volunteered to return and attempt to rescue their lost teammate (who unknown to them was already dead). After Chapman was hit the teamleader is believed in the dark to have checked the pulse on their dead teammate when they passed him (thinking it was Chapman). That's how they ended up leaving him.

USAF Combat Control Specialist are a USAF Elite Special Operations (Techinally known as Special Tactics Operators). They often act as a one man attachment to other Specisl Forces such as SEALS and Delta. They specialize in Air and Artillery Control. These are the guys that are inserted hundreds of miles behind enemy lines with Special Forces security teams to direct incoming ordinance.

First medal of Honor awarded It was on this date in 1863 that the first Medal of Honor, our nation's highest military award, was presented to Private Jacob Parrott for his part in the “The Great Locomotive Chase” that ended just outside of Chattanooga.

The "Why" question is because its in the dark, bullets are flying and they are going up hill.

The reason they dropped in the middle is they already tried to land once, took a rocket and made emergency evasion where the SEAL they went back for fell out. They had to grab another helicopter and then back for their guy
