Watching this makes my stomach drop because it feels like everything we were ever taught about heart health is completely wrong. It is terrifying to realize a simple test could reveal hidden danger while standard cholesterol panels keep people in the dark, yet there is also a profound sense of relief knowing we finally have a clearer path to truly protecting our lives.

My wife and I have started following Dr. Brewer since 2020. This is absolutely true in 2020 my wife started feeling bad after meals and we purchased our glucose monitor and we finded out she was T2D eventhough she is skinny, atletic, exercise often and she was in Mediterranean diet. The health system didn't accept our readings because her Fasting glucose and A1C were " normal " 5 years later now she is fully Diabetic taking Jardiance 24 mg once a day, her pancreas y producing low insulin, sad how the system works

The test that predicts heart attacks better than standard cholesterol screening or basic fasting glucose is the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), specifically measuring 1-hour post-load glucose and insulin levels [08:25].

The video emphasizes that early-stage metabolic disease (insulin resistance and blood sugar spikes) is the main driver of arterial plaque, heart attacks, and strokes, rather than cholesterol alone [00:27].

FStandard tests like fasting blood glucose and HbA1c often miss early metabolic dysfunction and can delay a diagnosis by 5 to 7 years, after arterial damage has already occurred [01:58, 06:05].

The 1-Hour OGTT Metric:

After consuming 75 grams of glucose, measuring blood sugar at 1 hour (rather than relying solely on 2-hour measurements) catches cardiovascular risk much earlier [03:25, 08:58].

155 mg/dL at 1 hour: Indicates significant pre-diabetes and elevated cardiovascular/vascular risk [05:11, 11:40].

209 mg/dL at 1 hour: Corresponds to full-blown diabetes and severe metabolic damage [06:53, 12:30].

Adding Insulin Response:
They recommend ordering an OGTT with insulin response to monitor if insulin is overreacting (reactive hypoglycemia) or failing to clear blood sugar smoothly [08:33, 25:08].

Good to see a real live version this morning on an important topic, thanks. I started watchng back in the flopy paper day's along with many others --- it was real down home felt like being in the office with a real doctor --- please don't go the AI route we've all had enough of AI and all it's data centers if you are pay attention you
must be able to see this happening. There are so many phoney AI doctors out there now ,so hard to listen to them and there impersonal droning, on and on ,without a pause, and they lack of any personality, it's stifling.

i was at the level of pre diabetes for around 6 years. i asked about metformin, i asked about insulin tests, the doctor basically said dont worry about it, just try to eat better and lose a little weight. fast forward , and now not only am I dealing with fatty liver disease, but also advanced non obstructive cardiac disease. Dont not get it twisted - pre diabetes, or even within the ballpark of pre diabetes, IS metabolic disfunction, and it IS causing serious damage to your health. Take it seriously, and fix it - because doctors will often dismiss it until it reaches the threshold of prescribing a pill.

Valuable information. Most docs do not buy into this. Very frustrating.

As a native Mississippian, and having known Mrs. Guyton, I need to inform you that Dr. Guyton was from Mississippi. His dad was a chemistry professor at Ole Miss. I think Dr. Guyton went to Harvard, but he came back to the University of MS Med. Center for a long career. ( you all may know that he developed polio, which caused him to discontinue his training for surgery.)
