  Toronto&apos;s biggest transit issue was ALWAYS the lack of a downtown subway connecting the east and west of downtown. Every politician in the city wanted either subways in the burbs or LRTs in the burbs, and they got caught up in bickering over that rather than funding actual subways in the core, ant it resulted in Toronto&apos;s crazy congestion.

  The name &quot;Ontario Line&quot; was given as its construction was initiated by a provincial agency, not municipal, and the terminal points were the transit under-serviced Ontario Place and the Ontario Science Centre -- however both these destinations no longer exist.

  Meanwhile Santiago, Chile, is building 3 brand new subway lines totaling 62km for around $7.23B (USD)... and in one of the most seismically active regions on the planet. <br><br>Maybe the B1M crew could take a trip down south to highlight this project as it does standout as one of the largest and most cost effective public transit projects in the entire American continent.

  Something the video didn&apos;t mention is that compared to the original relief line, the Ontario line is automated (lower running cost, easily scalable to demand), adds a connection to the Eglinton crosstown, and also adds connections to 3 major commuter train lines, which will relieve at the crowded union station downtown.
