Archaeologists Unearthed Something in Nevada That Predates the Egyptian Pyramids A husband and wife surveying caves near Fallon, Nevada in nineteen forty found a body on a fur blanket with skin still on the shoulders and hair still on the skull, wrapped in mats woven tightly enough that the fibres had not separated. They estimated two thousand years, boxed him up, and he sat in a museum drawer in Carson City for fifty six years before anyone ran a radiocarbon test. He was about nine thousand four hundred years old. By the time the Great Pyramid went up he had already been lying in that cave for nearly five millennia. In this one I go through the landscape that explains him, because Nevada was not desert then. Lake Lahontan covered over eight thousand square miles and carved the very caves these sites sit in. I also cover the Winnemucca petroglyphs, dated by testing the carbonate crust rather than the stone, which puts them at a minimum of ten and a half thousand years and possibly close to fifteen. Lovelock Cave, where guano miners shifted two hundred and fifty tons before an archaeologist arrived, and where eleven tule reed duck decoys sat in a sealed pit. And the twenty year legal fight over Spirit Cave Man, blocked by skull measurements until a genome settled it. He was exactly who the tribe had always said he was.
