  I hate to admit it, I was of the mindset to never pay inside furniture prices for outdoor funiture, until I slept on a proper outdoor sectional, OMG. Worth every dime! Also, I just had a really good hardscape vendor advise not to spend the extra money the items listed here. Glad to know the reasons actually make sense.

  We love our pergola.  We put a sheet of lattice over the top for additional shade and vinyl shades on the East/West sides.

  Don&apos;t buy the umbrella!<br>You have to always be alert to the wind and weather conditions. We took really good care of ours so it never blew over but having to cover/uncover it every year and open/close it everytime the weather changed was a chore . . . and even with all of that vigilance, the fabric started ripping after about 5yrs (yes we used a marine based UV protection spray). <br>I recommend saving your money to put a nice down payment on a permanent structure. Even if you are renting there are some solid roof gazebos that can be held down with sand/water/anchored to the building with suspension cable, anything but PLEASE, NOT an umbrella. It&apos;s a nightmare waiting to destroy your windows or your neighbors windows.

  As a Landscape Architect I have designed hundreds of outdoor fire pits.. I warned every client about them..a total waste of space and money. they always pull out the magazine pictures.. $30,000 later, it sits there collecting leaves and a great place for mice to over winter. &nbsp;Home and Garden TV has done a lot of damage to the reality of good design... 90% of the country also have very limited time to use patios. So the area gets neglected for 8 months a year. &nbsp; Here in Florida, we do get to use our outdoors almost all year..so investing in the garden area is a good investmet,

  If your getting smoked out of your backyard because of a built in gas firepit, then something is seriously wrong. WTF. Gas fires don&apos;t smoke at all?
