Leon was introduced alongside Claire Redfield as one of the two player characters in Resident Evil 2 (1998). The character was initially conceived as a veteran police officer in the game's prototype, but Noboru Sugimura redesigned him as a young, newly recruited officer. In Resident Evil 2, Leon arrives late for his first day at work in the doomed Raccoon City and a zombie outbreak confronts him. Leon is the protagonist of several Resident Evil games, novelizations, and films, and has appeared in other game franchises, such as Project X Zone and Dead by Daylight. He also appears in computer-generated imagery (CGI)-animated films and an animated miniseries. In later games, such as Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 4 (2023), Leon's facial features are based on those of the Romanian model Eduard Badaluta. Video-game publications have described Leon as one of the most popular and iconic video-game characters, with critics lauding his personality in Resident Evil 4 (2005). Starting with the Resident Evil 2 (2019) remake, praise has also been afforded to Leon's characterization in modern Resident Evil games. Resident Evil 4 is a 2005 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom for the GameCube. It is the fourth main installment in the Resident Evil series. Players control the special agent Leon S. Kennedy on a mission to rescue the president of the United States's daughter, Ashley Graham, who has been abducted by a religious cult in rural Spain. Leon fights hordes of enemies infected by a mind-controlling parasite and reunites with the female spy and mercenary Ada Wong. In a departure from the fixed camera angles and slower gameplay of previous Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4 features a dynamic camera system and action-oriented gameplay. Development on Resident Evil 4 began for the PlayStation 2 in 1999. Four proposed versions were discarded; the first was directed by Hideki Kamiya, but series creator Shinji Mikami felt it was too great a departure from the previous games, so it was spun off as Devil May Cry (2001). Other versions were scrapped until Mikami took directorial duties for what became the final version. The game was announced as part of the Capcom Five, a collaboration between Capcom and Nintendo to create five exclusives for the GameCube. Resident Evil Requiem is a 2026 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It is the ninth main Resident Evil game, following Resident Evil Village (2021). It features a new protagonist, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who investigates the remains of Raccoon City with the help of the federal agent and returning protagonist Leon S. Kennedy. Gameplay alternates between Grace and Leon. Grace's missions continue the survival horror gameplay of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) and Resident Evil Village as she evades monsters inside a hotel. Leon's missions are action-oriented, similar to games such as Resident Evil 4 (2005), as he battles zombies. Both characters can be played from a first-person or a third-person perspective. Announced in July 2024 and unveiled at Summer Game Fest in June 2025, Requiem was directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. It was conceived as an open-world online multiplayer game, but by 2021 it was shifted to a more conventional single-player Resident Evil game. Requiem was developed with the RE Engine and was the first Resident Evil game designed for ninth-generation consoles. It marked Leon's first major mainline game appearance since Resident Evil 6 (2012), and he was redesigned to appear older. Requiem was released for Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026 to critical acclaim. 00:00 Intro 01:04 Early Life and Training 02:20 Resident Evil 2 08:33 Resident Evil 4 13:00 CGI Films 15:14 Resident Evil 6 17:00 Resident Evil: Vendetta and Death Island 21:14 Resident Evil: Requiem 26:16 Outro
