5:53 you all need to correct that. Velocity factor makes the wire length shorter, not longer. So if you omit velocity factor (2% to 15%) your wire will be longer than optimal. To keep the electrical length resonant at your target frequency, you must trim the physical wire to a shorter measurement when velocity factor is included.

Regular BLACK insulated THHN 12 or 14 gauge house wiring works great for permanent antennas.

Great show ! Love the gust ! Some Rig Expert ones will do villosity factor . You have to measure the coax . My Zoom model does. It does more when connected to computer . DX 50 is from DX Commander directly . Super strong . Kevlar core with copper braded on outside like a shield. Handles NY winters !!! We just had a 80 MPH wind storm in Boston NY with foot of snow. Trees down all over. Sparking power lines. Like a CAT 1 Hurricane but with snow. Then we got 2 to 3 in more next day. Syracuse NY got the worst of it, Shut the city down !! I knew M2MAK got some of it, All over my local news . Lake Erie has a Stench coming off of it. I am inland on a ridge . No smell hear but the ridge makes the wind stronger if coming from west and makes rain/snow pile up . It is wind direction hear that makes us get buried in feet of snow or nothing . It can change that much hear . We can have sun and next town over 3 ft snow. I have that DXE pink wire 14 AWG is is great. full KW easy and bright color matches girlfriends knickers giving me 3 DB signal boost ! Black light at night and looks like a neon tube . Great stuff ! 73

I have always used 12swg Enameled coated Hard drawn copper wire for long wire/half wave Antennae. Had a weight on the far end to keep it tight via a pulley wheel, Never seemed to stretch. Can't seem to find it for sale in Europe now tho. Using Stainless steel stranded 1mm at the moment . Has 84kg load. Squirrels! Use garlic or chilli/hot spices will keep them away from chewing your wires.
Squirrels hate it. 👍

Antenna wire pre- stretching is only for guys that want their wire antenna to stay in tune and quads to stay in shape. While I have your attention, doubling small gauge bare wire and winding it with a drill then pre stretching it for reasons. Because that is the only wire at home depot worth using .
