  I think what made Mako so selfish and the way that he is socially is the fact that all his life, all he&apos;s really tried to do is &nbsp;survive. He lost his parents, had to deal with the Triple Threats, and had to scrape his way through Pro-Bending. He was selfish because as a kid he had to take care of his brother who he made sure had things he wanted. Mako could not complain and had to swallow the fact he was not going to get everything he desired. <br><br>Because Bolin was so optimistic and a bit happy go lucky, he tried to be rational one with some success. In other words, while Bolin ruled with his heart Mako ruled with his head, which explains why he was so cold to Korra at first, blew his first real relationship with Asami, and why his only real relationship with other people prior to Korra and Asami was Bolin. <br><br>Moreover, Mako can&apos;t pick up on social cues and feux pas&apos;s because he doesn&apos;t know them or know how to read the situation in the room which again is something Prince Wu and others picked up on.

  Mako is not my favorite character in The Legend of Korra, but damn Mike and Bryan did his character so dirty. Not only did they ruin his character by forcing him to be the typical love interest, but the way they handled his relationship with both Korra and Asami was just bad. Personally, I like character as the older brother who was forced to grow up to take care of his little brother Bolin to survive in the streets after the death of his parents. But making him a plot device as part of the love triangle was so unnecessary. I get that The Legend of Korra was originally supposed to be a 12 episode miniseries, but the first two seasons did not do Mako any justice. Plus, it got worse when Mike and Bryan made him lose both Korra and Asami by pairing up them as a couple. Mako deserves better because he had potential to be a much better character as the &quot;big brother&quot; of the group. Someone who is more mature, calm, collected, and not afraid to speak his mind against Korra&apos;s hot-headed, brash, and impulsive personality. The first Legend of Korra season 1 and 2 should&apos;ve focused on building up the main characters&apos; friendship and teamwork. If Mike and Bryan focused on telling a good story and good friendship, then the first two Legend of Korra seasons would&apos;ve had a better reception from fans.
