You are very honest. You didn't make any excuses. That's not easy to do when you're talking about your GOAT.

The one thing that Bird has is the fact that he could immediately turn a bad team around all by himself. Rookie year: Celtics were 29-53 the year before. Same team with Bird: 61-21 and the ECF. Jordan arrived in 84. The Bulls didn't get to .500 until 1988 which was Pippen's rookie year. Lebron? Really? Anyone?By the way, I've watched the NBA for 45 years. I have it Jordan, Bird, Kobe too. All the best.

Jordan was a beast no doubt he just didn’t have the team behind him in the 80s. Bird is still my GOAT though.

Bird did not have 'Hall of Fame' team mates who were supporting him....
He made several of his team mates 'Hall of Fame' players....

Larry was hurt for many years. He had already injured his back a few years before when he was shoveling gravel in his mom’s driveway. And yes, he had bone spurs in his feet, and he had surgery on both of his Achilles tendons, I believe. Larry was a super tough player!!

Google the commercials that Bird & Jordan did together. They were amazing. 🤩😊

Hey Larry is my favorite player ever and I put Larry and Jordan 1a and1b ! They are two of the greatest players ever. Some facts about his feet. He had double Achilles surgery and when he was due to come back he broke a bone in his back during practice. In 1991 he had a disc removed in his back to relive the nerve pain. He was amazing. He had a duel with Dominique Wilkins. That was before the surgery on his feet while he had bone spurs in both feet and bronchial pneumonia. You got to watch that game. It was a playoff game tooo! There will never be another one like him! Great reaction ❤

Hey What I like about Larry he never complained or made excuses when he lost or played bad even in college when Magic said Michigan State double teamed Larry the whole game and Larry said he did not play or shot that well. Another Story that not many know about is when he got in a fight in a bar and punched a guy in the face and played with a swollen hand for the play offs and never complained and never used it as an excuse.
Larry Bird was involved in a bar fight outside Chelsea's bar in Boston during the 1985 Eastern Conference Finals against the 76ers, injuring his right index finger, which swelled significantly, and he played with it taped up, impacting his performance, though he later admitted regret and settled lawsuits from the incident. The fight was initially somewhat secret, with the team not reporting the injury, but reporters noticed the swollen hand and Bird's slump in play, and it became a known story of his tough competitiveness.
Details of the Incident:
When: Mid-May 1985, during the playoffs.
Where: Outside Chelsea's bar near Quincy Market in Boston.
The Fight: Bird got into an altercation with a bartender-bouncer, Michael Harlow, and threw a punch, injuring his finger.
The Injury: His right index finger became badly swollen (described as a "Polish sausage" by one report) and discolored, hindering his shooting.
Impact: Bird's shooting percentages dropped significantly in the later games of that series.
Aftermath: Bird admitted fault, apologized, and settled lawsuits with Harlow and a woman involved, but regretted the incident, as noted by Fadeaway World and UPI.
Competitiveness: In a display of grit, he once won a $160 free-throw shooting contest with his hand heavily taped after the fight.
Incident Details
Date: The fight occurred on the night of May 16, 1985, two nights after the Celtics took a 2-0 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Location: The altercation took place in and around Chelsea's, a bar in Boston's North End (Quincy Market area).
Opponent: Bird got into a scuffle with Mike Harlow, a bartender-bouncer and former college football player. The fight reportedly started over Harlow's female companion.
Injury: Bird sustained a significant injury to his right index finger, which included a shattered knuckle. The finger was visibly swollen and discolored afterward, with some reports saying it was "swollen nearly double the size of his first knuckle".
Secrecy: The Boston Celtics organization initially attributed Bird's performance slump to a sore elbow or sprained finger, keeping the true nature and cause of the injury
Impact on Performance
Bird continued to play despite the severe injury, but it visibly affected his shooting performance.
Pre-fight (1985 Playoffs): Bird was averaging close to 30 points per game.
Post-fight (remainder of playoffs): His scoring average dropped to 22.2 points per game, and his field goal percentage also dipped significantly.
The 1985 NBA Finals: Bird struggled in the Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, who went on to win the championship in six games. Many believe the injury was a contributing factor in the Celtics' loss that year.
Bird later expressed regret for the incident, saying it was his fault and that he was in the "wrong place at the wrong time". The injury was a lasting one; the finger never fully recovered its original condition, remaining bent and swollen for the rest of his career. 😇
That is what you call a Man's Man

They are opposite ends of the same GOAT coin. You don't have to choose one.
