The scariest experience I ever had as a flight attendant was a call from the pilots that we had a problem with the hydraulics and that they would call us back when they knew more. It was the most surreal 10 minutes as we were serving drinks to calm passengers as I was thinking about the Sioux City crash and how at any minute, we could find ourselves in the same situation. It turned out to be a faulty warning light.

Holy crap! It's unbelievable that anyone survived this. But the pilots were amazing. Staying cool under that kind of pressure and doing the best they could.

I remember when this happened. What those pilots accomplished is nothing short of a miracle. Their efforts saved the lives over 180 people.

Sometime before this happened, Al Haynes had been one of my Dad's copilots for United. I recall asking Dad about him after the accident, and he replied that of all the pilots he had ever flown with, Al Haynes would have been his choice to be commanding that DC-10 on that day.
