Whilst I would mostly agree with this content, not all Loafers look the same, some have more pointed toes than others, some look more like moccasins, while others have tassels attached to the upper. Loafers are versatile and unless they have chunky soles and heals, i find you can dress them up and down. I buy 'Bass Weejuns', the original Ivy League shoe, that look good with good quality selvedge (not faded and definitely no holes) chino's or linen trousers. These have flat leather soles, which unfortunately mark and wear down very quickly, so I normally have slim rubber soles put on when needed.
