  I saw this film four years prior to COVID, and have been obsessed with the Spanish flu ever since.  In my opinion it's one of the worst things ever to happen to human kind, and we should be aware that it could happen again when we're least expecting it.

  I read and read about the Spanish flu - and saw the Downton Abbey treatment of it, but it didn't really hit home deeply until I watched this.   Incredibly well done.

  Influenza went from a seasonal nuisance to a truly vicious killer that at maximum killed 100 million people within 18 months. Never scoff at a virus that has the capability to do something like that.

  Watched this in history class in high school. I was probably 14/15 and I had to leave class because it made me feel so anxious and uncomfortable.

  I loved documentaries but the more I watch the more inaccurate and sensationalised they seem to be these days, this docu-drama is both accurate and compassionate. I wish more historical explorations were as honest and well made as this. Best BBC show in decades.

  I remember watching this on TV. It’s one of the most moving pieces of TV I’ve ever seen. Bill Paterson is brilliant in it. I can’t say this is always comfortable viewing, but I think it’s very thought provoking, especially in the light of covid. I take my hat off to the real Dr James Niven. He did some incredible work in Manchester during Spanish Flu. You have to wonder how many lives he saved. It’s just so sad that he developed depression when he retired in 1922, so actually not that long after the Spanish Flu pandemic, before he took his own life in 1925.

  How strange that there is NO mention of " The Spanish Flu" in Hansard. Why did no UK politician ever discuss what was supposed to be the biggest single killing event in history ?

  audio was just peachy. really enjoyed Bill Patterson’s performance… truly fun to see he &amp; Brian Cox together in something… wish i lived closer to catch their Beckett… alas… <br><br>a very hard story… am uncomfortable watching as my town braces for our third wave this Winter… sigh… over nearly two years. <br>SPOILER AHEAD<br><br><br><br><br><br><br>his suicide, so many years after the events depicted took place… <br>am now left discomfited… is there more to the story? <br>I know id like more! lol!
