  Im honestly surprised alot of the &quot;keeping warm&quot; items are not used outside of japan, like a Kotatsu &nbsp;or heated rug in the UK would be amazing! Especially when working from home or relaxing in the evening, no point in putting expensive central heating on when you are sat in one room.

  I lived in Japan for 6 months, 20 years ago, and I still miss Japanese bathrooms.

  I am an old grandmother now, but in my younger days I traveled for work to Japan (2 weeks at a time) for 8 years. My host became my good friend and I still chat with her on line and she comes to visit me in the states. I love everything about Japan and would move there if I was able!! The many convinces, the beauty of the people and the land and traditions makes Japan my favorite nation!!

  I was in Tokyo early last September and I&apos;m not normally someone who&apos;s shoes get gross, but after two days they smelled AWFUL. The heat and humidity were so out of control they just never had the chance to dry properly. I can definitely see why a shoe drying device would be a thing.

  Its insane that the bathtub which heats to a set temp isn&apos;t normal elsewhere. Japan is such an interesting place to view as a westerner.

  I kind of think that keeping a Kimono for special use in Japan is very similar to how many people in the US own at least one dress suit and only bring it out for special occasions. &nbsp;I haven&apos;t worn my suit for a few years now, but it&apos;s still hanging in my closet. &nbsp;I think it&apos;s really interesting how in Japan people chose to employ personal and small area heating, whereas in the US builders went more and more towards weather proofing the houses to make them more efficient to heat the whole house. &nbsp;I really like the idea of sitting under a kotatsu watching the snow fall in the garden through the open Shoji screens, though. &nbsp;It sounds amazing.
