It's eye-opening to see how much we pay for 'convenience' today when our grandparents saved so much just by doing the thinking themselves. I never realized that buying a whole chicken or using dried beans instead of canned could make such a huge difference in the budget. I'm definitely starting my own 'stock bag' in the freezer for free bone broth and will try the 'meal plan backwards' method this week. These aren't just old tricks; they are a necessary philosophy for today's world. Thanks for the great reminders!

Beans rice oats corn meal. Dadsmost important food group was beer even if bills weren't paid or house in disrepair. In Reagans recession he wanted to get a $500 bank loan to feed 7 adults and a 4 yr old. For 4 days food. ( He wanted more to drink with) That's when I pulled out the 3 cans a week emergency food I stored in secret. He was livid so for 6 weeks each time I got groceries he searched where I had stored food (I continued with Mom's approval. But hid it in a different place) and check the grocery list. And receipts. Please don't drink or do drugs every cent is food from your family's mouth
