Inspirational documentary! The reason Hirohito was spared was because the USA needed him to keep the Japanese people behind the post war occupation and rebuilding plan. Without allowing Japan to keep its emperor the more pro-continuation of war factions in their military would likely have started a guerilla war with the US occupation forces.<br><br>But ending the war by nuclear means isn’t acceptable

Imagine for a second, just for a second, that after the war ended in Europe, Hitler would not only be allowed to roam as he pleased, but would be, CONSTITUTIONALLY, the head of state in Germany.<br><br>The world would, quite rightly, go mad against it. But that's what happened in Japan.<br>Yes, some will say "Oh, but the emperor was not involved in military matters that much. You can't make that comparison."<br>Well, I can and I shall. After the war against Japan ended, a war criminal continued as head of state. His role was diminished, yes, but he continued as the emperor, as the head of state.
