IMO… I really feel that Gaby should have won Wimbledon in 1991 for her second Slam. She served for the match but just couldn’t pull it out. Graf was too tough. And unfortunately Gaby was too nice.

The Ball was OUT! Big Lucky for Sabatini. If steffi win this tiebreak and gabys mental would lost in 3. Set.

Great win by Sabatini....but it kills me when people say she was a 'great' player.... She was a GOOD player ...but far from GREAT...this was her only slam win....people always talk about how 'often' she beat Graf....but this was the ONLY time in her career that she beat Graf in a grand slam. Gabby's game would've gotten annihilated in the late 90s when more power players were there (Venus, Serena, Davenport, Capriati)....Heck, a 15 yr old Capriati would eliminate her the very next year in the qf....

Steffi said that she had a massive attack of nerves in this match, the worst she'd ever had to that point, and that she was so upset after the loss that she didn't leave her hotel room for several days.

This was the last Grand Slam event where Steffi was holding two balls in her hand for first serve.

Sabatini looks even younger these days. Those 80´s hairstyles 😃. I am glad she won this one. I think she won a grandslam in doubles aswell at Wimbledon with Graf.

 I never liked Graf.
Maybe she was the best female player at that time, but she never accepted that another player could beat her on special days.
She never looked in her opponents face when she had to go to the net and give a handshake, Graf was simply unfair

This was such a monumental shock at the time. Pretty much everyone had written Gaby off - she'd had a poor 1990 having to be taken off court at the Australian Open in a wheelchair after sustaining a bad injury, followed by a sad loss to Novotna at the French Open. She'd played better at Wimbledon, reaching the semi finals, but didn't really seem to believe she could beat Navratilova. She'd only played two tournaments between Wimbledon and the US Open, losing to Rehe in Los Angeles and Katarina Maleeva in Canada. She had absolutely no form coming in to the US Open. But the draw opened up for her. Navratilova and Seles went out early in shock losses and Gaby battled her way through.
