  I was a devout Christian for the first twenty years of my life, discovered these religious debates, and was instantly sure that it was all bullshit. Religion works perfectly in an echo chamber, but put them in the academic sphere, and it’s just so obviously similar to a belief Santa Claus. Just like a switch went off on my brain. <br><br>I’m glad I discovered The Waking Up, which gave me a powerful way to deal with life without religion that I was not aware of.

  What is incredible to me is that anyone is religious at all. It goes to show the power of indoctrination in upbringing.

  For many years I was a Christian, brought up in the Anglican Faith and a regular church attendee. Listening to the weekly sermons and readings. Then I read the Bible.

  To believe in Christianity, Islam, or Judaism, is to believe people too ignorant to know where the sun went at night were also the same people who had the afterlife all figured out. I&apos;ll live my life w/o the need of a bronze age sky wizard.
