  If you don't know, even Japanese rice are now farmed in Vietnam using Japanese rice seeds and Japanese techniques, then export back to Japan.

  There's a big problem in Japan where all the population move to large cities, where in fact there needs to be more focus in developing the countryside.

  Japanese rice is run like a cartel, they don't lower prices making Japanese people turn to wheat products. Which is ironic considering the whole point of the Japanese rice cartel was supposed to make it self sufficient.

  Japan&apos;s food inflation is completely self inflicted. <br><br>They restrict imports to prevent foreign competition and secure votes from farmers.

  They said, young people aren&apos;t willing to do farm, as if they are to be blamed. But truth is, the number of young people in Japan itself is decreasing steadily. They&apos;re outnumbered by older generations.

  I looked It up and only 49 000km² is suitable for cultivation in Japan, around 13.2% of their land.<br><br>My grandpa&apos;s farm was 16 000 acres, or 64.8km². if my grandpa had been farming in Japan his farm alone would have been 0.13% of Japan&apos;s total farmland. And his farm wasn&apos;t especially big in the Canadian prairies...<br><br>My home province of Alberta is also roughly double the size of Japan, and the vast majority of it is suitable for cultivation. Japan also has 126 million people living in it, most of them in cities. I&apos;m floored that they&apos;re even at 30%. That&apos;s seriously impressive...

  The thing is as affluence rises farming scale has to scale with it. In an international market a farmer that can plant 40 acres an hour per person compared to 4 transplanting rice seeds will never be competitive. Everyone talks about japan and robotics but their agriculture has remained frozen. They have that fancy rice transplanter but they are only doing 16 feet at a time. The custom farmer that plant’s my crop fields has a 60 foot drill and is going almost 4 times the ground speed. If food was expensive, then young people will go to the opportunity, then you have young farmers and more food. But if food is cheap because they have to compete with me in western canada they will fail on wheat, seed oils and legumes every time. Only becuase we are too dry and cold for rice keeps them from having competition there as well.
