Can you tell whoever does your video editing that the In Home Display is not a Smart Meter?

You do NOT get charged if your smart meter goes faulty. There are times when the meters get what we call a "blank screen", and some can stop communicating entirely. Regardless, the supplier will exchange it, FREE OF CHARGE.

The only issue on this topic is actually getting an engineer out for an appointment.

All those issues you mentioned were solved in the computer world.
For nand chips - there are overprovisioning of capcity, add to that techniques like wear leveling, using portion of the cells at lower density and you get to 500+ drives writes.
And for power loss - UPS keeps the power long enough to finish critical tasks before shutting down - for meter simple battery will be sufficient.
combine that with more Intelligent data management system, and the meter can last many years.
Problems start when you skimp on design and use subpar solutions - upfront you pay cheap and later on you will spend several folds more to deal with the consequences.

This doesn't apply to meters designed to the SMETS2 standard - they are designed to limit the number of NAND r/w cycles, are required to have "wear levelling" algorithms and data buffering.

SMETS2 meters have a rated lifetime of 10 years - the NAND memory used must have been stress tested to at least 15 years under temperature extremes. They also have data integrity and industry standard error correcting mechanisms.

SMETS1 meters are different - the very early meters used to write logs too often while overall the write management was inconsistent. Their rated life was 10 years.

SMETS1 meters are being replaced with SMETS2.

The source is literally the marketing guy at a firm that wants to sell their proprietary file system to smart meter companies and makes no claim that smart meters are failing in the wild due to this issue, do you guys not do any fact checking?

An eeprom taking register reads each day could guard against large errors on the nand flash throwing the results way off. The large unexpected discrepancy could be narrowed down to a particular day. Then its a case of estimating usage until it's rectified. A relatively modest eeprom could store years worth of readings before having to write over the first.

Councils used to do COT tests, until it all turned to poo. Now there's 1000's of properties untested and it's catch up time!

Had those problem with security systems. Constant rewrites several times a day, eventually wore out the NVM device in use at the time. They were removable, so I swapped them out. Retired now. But I have one of those smart meters. It's many years old now. So. Am I expecting a similar problem.

"File systems that don't wear out" The problem is in the hardware, not the software.

I have a friend who spent 12 years as a systems architect, trying to make a system for smart meters that could possibly work accurately. When he ceased to work in that area, he to
d me to avoid SM's because a really decent system , was not even in sight.

Another meter story: I got a dumb electronic meter when I got my solar panels, as the electromechanical meter would go in reverse. After a while I started burst firing my immersion heater to use excess solar power. This worked well. However, when I got a smart meter it started to register import. It appears that the algorithm which emulates the electromechanical meter is different. I was quite take aback by this as I assumed it would be standardised.
