  The fundamental presumption is wrong. $22 is NOT the cost of the materials. The cost of materials is around 25 - 35% of the whole sale price. It was Chinese labor cost that was $8 - $10 before and now went up to $22 per device. It is what you pay the worker to put them together. &nbsp;<br>You only get $22 BOM when you are building a tiny router or raspberry pi. If your laptop is those $200 &nbsp;models, they still have $70 -$100 worth of hardware in them. FYI, there are two separate chains now. You can put together brand new systems with all new parts or build a brand new system from recycled parts. Those are real cheap. Thats the one in your sub $200 phones and laptops.<br>Your bigest mistake is throwing one holy number for a entire class of products. Thats was the losing position.

  This video is silly because it doesn&apos;t take into consideration the amount of effort it takes to design these laptops. Raw materials do not equal design specifications

  I have a $600 dell. &nbsp;I checked on the prices of several main components and that was around $400. &nbsp;I doubt these numbers quoted in the video aren&apos;t even close to accurate. &nbsp; In China, the parts probably are around $200. &nbsp;I expect there to be a markup and cost of warranty. &nbsp;I have seen some Chinese computers on TEMU that were super cheap. &nbsp;Anyone actually buy one?

  that 22 dollars is the assembly costs... to that you must add cost of all components...let us say a laptop which one buys at 1000 usd, the total cost until it reaches retailer like Best Buy would be max $ 500

  The processor alone can not be cheap as $22 for 4 cores or more, even if you buy in 1000 pcs quantity. Now RAM price raised to 3x.

  Id be happy to pay $2000 for a laptop I know will give me the longevity of every laptop Ive ever owned.<br>How will I know I am not wasting my energy, time and chance of losing data on a risky $22 or $200 laptop.<br>Stuff that.

  This issue was solved decades ago. A computer was produced that assembled by stacken each board on 2 parallel ports. One did power delivery and the second was a com port. The computer stacked into any configuration the builder needed. <br><br>You could build any desktop, laptop or even tablet the same way. Have a motherboard that just distributes power and a parallel connectors. The cpu is 1 board you plug in. The memory a s3cond, communication a third and so on right down to the batter. Need a new cpu... pop off the old board and replace it with a new one. The same goes for storage, ram, the battery, communications, etc.....<br><br>Each is a seperate single purpose daughter board.
