Andreas is a good representative for Ionity - he clearly knows his stuff and understands/communicates their market position. Good video.

Re the rain covers, France has laws for the car park owners over a certain size, that solar has to cover a certain percentage. That would be a great thing to do in the UK. I do agree that generally a canopy is not required as you do not spend long standing outside the car.

Its the parking that annoys me, each site is always different with different rules, even some sites having to register my plate for staying for free parking

I would have liked the question to be asked "How do you stop people stealing cables. Especially in Cities?"

In that car park there were BP Pulse AC chargers that no longer work because of lack of maintenance

In York, we have Ionity at a local shopping area. They took months to come online, and there are only a handful of them. But it's a great start. Much better location than the BP Pulse ones which are in a dedicated area and confusing to get to/leave.

As to reliability I have found Ionity chargers that didn’t work. On one occasion the charger wouldn’t release the hire vehicle & I couldn’t access the emergency release on it as we were fully loaded. I called the Ionity helpline which was answered immediately, the person took me through a couple of things to try with the key fob but they didn’t work that time so they rebooted the charger and I was able to unplug. I probably didn’t lose more than 10 min from realising I had a problem to plugging into another charger so hats off to them for support.

Excellent quality video Andrew, love the 4k aswell! One thing though in britian id expect Ionity to supply umbrellas at the charging stations 😆

One last thing Mr Ionity doesnt mention though is that that 400kw is shared between 2 car stations, so you wont ever get that. 200–320 kW on cars with 800 V architecture 100–180 kW on 400 V cars is common.

IONITY’s 400 kW sites use ABB Terra 360 and Alpitronic Hypercharger 400 hardware.
A single cabinet feeds two posts, meaning the 400 kW is shared between them.
Even if you’re alone, the charger will not allocate the full 400 kW depending on internal load balancing and grid constraints

On ultra‑fast chargers like IONITY’s 350–400 kW units, the cable is actually one of the biggest bottlenecks, liquid vs air cooled cables make a difference, if this stations has liquid 400kw is possible (with the right car) but grid and load still matter.
This is from a avid charger user in Norway using lots of Ionity with my Ioniq 5.

Yes subscribed around mid Jan this year as at the time they were offering the Ionity Motion for £45 - yes just £45 for the whole year - a no brainer and saves a decent amount especially on Euro road trips but also gives me 53p/kWh for the whole 12 months :)

It would be interesting to see their plans about expanding Scotland network. I wish they build a site or two somewhere in Thurso or Durness. 😊

Ionity has now also a charging card itself. It is so much easier to use. It can be ordered for free at least in the EU from within the Ionity app. 400 kW is only posiible if your are alone at that type of charger, otherwise max 200 kW.
