This wasn’t the original Tower of Babel. That occurred centuries before Nebuchadnezzar. This was a ziggurat. There were dozens of them built throughout Mesopotamia, most likely based on the original design of the Tower of Babel. <br><br>The original Tower of Babel occurred before the time of Abraham (c 2000 BC) when the world still spoke one language. <br><br>By the time of Nebuchadnezzar (605-562 BC) there were thousands of different languages. <br><br>And, fun fact: they had completed building the original Tower of Babel. What God had interrupted was their building a city. <br><br>He had told them to spread out throughout the world (fill the world) and they refused. They wanted to cluster together in cities. <br><br>Cities were known for all kinds of wicked and immoral activity. That was the main reason why they wanted to build and live in a city. <br><br>The only way God could get them to spread out throughout the world was by making it difficult for them to communicate with each other. <br><br>In the end Nebuchadnezzar did build a huge city and a tower to “the gods,” but like everything man builds, it ended up being destroyed.
