  It wasn't Andy's story, it was Red's, and how Andy Dufresne’s life gave Red hope for the first time in 40 years.

  One of my favorite details of the film is that we never see Brooks behind bars at Shawshank, it&apos;s always pushing his cart, or in the cafeteria or library. It&apos;s not until he is &quot;free&quot; and he is carving his name in the halfway house do we see him behind bars. <br><br>Parallels beautifully with the shots of Brooks and Red leaving prison. When Brooks leaves the camera faces the prison and the past, when Red leaves, the camera faces away from the prison toward freedom and hope. And when Red leaves the halfway house he&apos;s walking away from those &quot;bars&quot; as the narration says &quot;get busy living or get busy dying&quot;.

  The scene of Norton searching Andy&apos;s cell is actually a lot more suspenseful on rewatches, since you can see how close he gets to finding the tunnel, and walking out with the rock hammer inside the Bible.

  This movie tricked people into enjoying poetry. <br>To be fair, Mr. Freeman speaking any prose quickly turns into poetry.

  I honestly can’t believe you guys are just now watching this.<br><br>This is hands down one of the best movies of all time and honestly gets better with every re-watch<br><br>Edit: I didn’t mean I didn’t believe them that they haven’t seen it, I meant it was hard to believe that they waited this long to watch it.

  Brooks taking his life is soul crushing. Not only that, but seeing him all by himself feeding the birds, hoping Jake shows up. He&apos;s old and alone, afraid, with no friends. A good reminder to go out of your way to smile at an elderly person, ask how they&apos;re doing, compliment them on something they&apos;re wearing, just be kind, as they often feel invisible. Wonderful reaction to an incredible movie.

  Red&apos;s crime, which is talked about in the book as Red is the POV character in it, is he tampered with the brakes on his wife&apos;s car, meaning to collect an insurance payout after it crashed. Unfortunately, the wife was also in the car with her neighbor and the neighbor&apos;s young daughter, and all three of them died when the brakes failed and the car crashed. That&apos;s why he calls himself &quot;the only guilty man in Shawshank,&quot; because he is really genuinely guilt-ridden about that crime.
