Whole house fan only works well where humidity is low and keeping windows open during summer is bearable.

Now I just use a fan pushing out a window at night upstairs in my old house. It works well.

Whole house fans are also great for sucking the smoke out of the kitchen when you burn dinner. I had a small older house once that had a fan so strong it could practically suck the paint off the walls. Had to open all the doors and windows to use it, but it would replace all the air in the house in about 30 seconds, so usually only ran it for a few minutes at a time.

Use a attic ventilator fan thermostatically controlled designed for the attic they work great and are very durable and last a long time, I have had one in my attic for over 20 years here in Arizona in the 100+ degree temp

House fans are NOT designed to operate at typical attic temps which can reach over 150 degrees. They can burn out and lead to a house fire.
