  Paul Irving Gunn was a Navy Chief Petty Officer and retired in from the Navy in 1939. He volunteered and was commissioned in the Army Air Force when WW2 started.

  In 1942, the original design B26 Marauders were crashing during training. &quot;1 a day in Tampa Bay.&quot; So bad that the B26 was grounded. Fast but tricky to fly. A revolutionary design. <br> &nbsp; Later someone finally sent a message &nbsp;asking the 339th bomb group at Seven Mile airdrome flying B26s in New Guinea if they had any problems?<br> &nbsp;They said, &quot;Sure we got problems. Send us more B26s!&quot;<br> &nbsp;My Father, Lawrence William Willette, MGSGT, USMC Ret. 1941-1970, &nbsp;Fought in WW2 at Tarawa in the first use of tanks in the Pacific. His tank, an M4 Sherman was blown up by a buried Japanese torpedo. He barely survived and spent months stateside recovering.<br> &nbsp;He went on to serve in the Korean War fighting at Inchon, Seoul, and the Chosin Reservoir. One of the Chosin Few. -50°F at night. Oil froze solid. 100,000 Chinese against 4000 Marines. <br> &nbsp;He went on to do 3 tours of the &apos;Nam. The Tet offensive, liberating Hue city. Toe to toe in M60s against NVA T55 Russian tanks in the only tank battle of Vietnam. <br> &nbsp;3 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars w/&quot;V&quot; for Valor, 4 presidential unit citations. Combat buddies with 3 Commandants. His, brother, my uncle, lies in the Arizona.<br> &nbsp; Buried in Las Vegas.<br> &nbsp; Semper &nbsp;Fi, Dad.

  Pappy Gunn is a legend in Australia. He was a genuine &quot;fix it with fencing wire&quot; airman who helped build the machine that won the Battle of the Bismarck Sea. He was the man we needed at a time help was required to repel a Japanese invasion. Here&apos;s to Pappy and skip bombing.

M2. Machine guns. The engineering involved in ammo feed, mounting, and cartridge chutes. &nbsp;specializing in wave top skip bombing. <br> &nbsp;The part about Townsville is true. <br> &nbsp;The Japanese were stunned. <br> &nbsp;North American Aviation later developed production versions, some with a 75mm Canon in the lower/port nose. Pilots said the &nbsp;recoil almost stalled the bombers,<br> &nbsp;But could cut a destroyer in half.
