Excellent video class. In 2003, I was in Berlin in a restaurant. The young man waiter asked me if I was an American veteran. I was. I got a 20% discount on my meal! The Berliners never forgot Operation Vittles; Checkpoint Charlie; Kennedy’s speech; Reagan’s speech nor the quality of life the West gave them. Berliners are my FRIENDS.

My dad flew this for 7 months, lovingly referred to the C47 as "gooney bird" 😂. He said it was quite monotonous, and I grew up never knowing what spam, Oreos, and fruit cocktail were because after 7 months of having sea rations while flying te lift he banned them in the house. 😂 He and his crew did develop COPD from flying so much coal and of course smoking all the Lucky Strikes that also came in the rations, but he said it was quite rewarding to see all the people who came out and waved and cheering.

This is, without doubt, the best program about the Berlin airlift I have yet seen. Outstanding!

The C-82 was the Flying "Packet", the larger and improved C-119 was the "Flying Boxcar".
The R-4360 (a 28 cylinder, 4 row) Radial Engine wasn't ready in time for the bigger plane.
The C-82 was somewhat under powered due to the (then) available engines....

I think this is the one our middle school teacher showed us when we were talking about the Cold War. Wish we would've spent more time learning about the Cold War people don't fully understand just how much it influenced modern history as we know it.
