The strike killing the 94 Expos and Tony Gwynn's shot at .400 still hurts.

Pre-wild card baseball was like college football pre-playoff expansion: you had to be near-perfect to get in.

And so true about the 2005 White Sox. They are so forgotten in history. Going 11-1 in the postseason is one of the great feats in baseball history.

The 1993 NL West was the last great pennant race between the Giants and Braves. Both teams kept grinding down the stretch. Braves came from behind after trading for McGriff.

The 5 in a row World Series Yankees won they never reached at least 100 wins, the following year they won 103 games but they were behind the Indians that won 111.

The 1909 Cubs won 104 games out of 154, a modern day pace of 109 wins, and missed the playoffs

See what you’d like about the modern playoff system, it is a far better than the old system where it was statistically possible to have the second best record in the history of major league baseball and still miss the playoffs.

Winning 103 games and not making the postseason is so criminal. Thank god they adjusted the playoff format

If you go back to 1980, the 1980 O’s won 100 games but were 3 games back of the Yanks and missed the playoffs.

Central Division and Wild Card didn't exist until 1994. Due to the strike in 1994, the wild card race began it's existence in 1995.
