  I went to a friends house who was christian, to spend the night. I was 8 and had a nightgown. I was told id have to sleep fully clothed because my nightgown wasnt modest enough specifically for the father. It was weird and i called my mom to go home

  I was an atheist as a child, and the Christian kids around me (1960's) tried to teach me that God is love. . .by beating me up.  Over and over.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BCzWsAWf3o&amp;t=466">7:46</a> &nbsp;when I was 8 I was really struggling with what I now know to be autism. &nbsp;And I couldn&apos;t stop repeating swear words, visualizing scenes from movies, memories, and bad thoughts. When I brought this to my parents, and they brought it to our church leadership, we got the explanation that I have a head full of demons. And I need to connect with god and pray till they go away. Till I was 16-17 I prayed and read my bible almost every single night till 3-4 am. I was horrified my demons would get my family killed, like god punished the families of so many sinners in the bible. My deconstruction began with the feeling that god cursed me to hell before I could even make a choice, no matter how hard I tried to find him and give my heart to his son. Misinformation, especially misinformation that outlines eternal torment, is incredibly damaging.

  I know a strict Christian family. &nbsp;Their young boys weren&apos;t allowed to go swimming at their aunt and uncle&apos;s pool, because their girl cousins might be there in their swimsuits. &nbsp;Their parents wouldn&apos;t even let them watch certain Disney movies because the girls and women in them swing their hips too sensually when they walk.

  I used to work in Psychiatric units in hospitals. The majority of the patients identified as evangelical, conservative, holiness, Pentecostal, word of faith. It’s a messed up thing Christianity’s does to people.

  At the age of 5, I suddenly got the reality of Hell, a place of eternal torment. &nbsp;I was horrified and shocked that God had created such a place. As to science, I was taught that all the things that made Christians doubt the Bible had been placed around the earth to fool us into believing evolution. &nbsp;I also encountered all the things, as well.

  Raised Pentacostal here. There are many but 2 that stand out as a kid, was that the Smurfs were demonic as was He-Man. Since there is only 1 &quot;Master of the Universe&quot;. Which broke my heart as a 9 year old boy who loved He-Man, when I was told I could no longer watch it. :(

  Same experience as you: I went to bed terrified of hell. Prayed obsessively, struggled with my &quot;thought-life&quot; which was never pleasing enough for God. Had really bad mental health struggles as a teen and was told I needed to &quot;get right with God&quot; and then my depression would be lifted.
