That captain didn’t suddenly become lazy, dishonest and negligent . He was like that for decades and yet he got promotion after promotion. Who was responsible for that?!?

My favorite part of that terrible night to highlight was the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Giglio - rousted from their beds in the middle of the night, Mayor Sergio Ortelli immediately set about coordinating ground response on the island (including setting up a triage center for 4000+ people! That’s a huge deal!), while Deputy Mayor Mario Pellegrini WENT ONBOARD the ACTIVELY SINKING ship, climbing a rope ladder up the side (!!), to coordinate passengers getting onto rescue ships/helicopters. He stayed and was the last off board, if I recall correctly, once he was assured every passenger still alive was off. <br><br>You know, things the captain should have been doing instead of being in a bar. Cazzo.

As an American I can assure you we are not all that ignorant, stupid, and oblivious. We just can't seem to keep them off of the tv and news. We also can't keep our media companies from trying to appeal to them at every single turn.

Netflix failed this documentary. So much left out of this documentary. Could have even turned it into a mini series with breaking it down. But glad you gave your professional opinion and breakdown of this disaster.

Internet Historian's documentary is unironically the best I've seen on Costa Concordia.

I'm American and I make documentaries for a living and I agree with you to a point. I don't mind the emotional interviews, but you're right there should have been maps showing the original route vs the actual route, they should have explained whether or not a sail by was normal and if so how close you usually get. I kept thinking why would the captain do this for the waiter, especially at night? I wish there's been more interviews with crew or someone who was not crew on this ship but someone who was an expert on sailing cruise ships. Better graphics were also needed to explain what side of the boat people were on, how high the boat was listing, etc. They also never explained how/why the 32 people died. What happened to her mom? Did she just stay in her cabin? Was she on the lifeboat that got stuck?

I watched the documentary of the refloating the Costa concordia, it's unbelievable the amount of engineering and expense that went into clearing up this utter mess.<br><br>Saturation divers doing thousands of hours of work. Entire underwater structures being made, multiple huge engineering firms.
