A lot of people think Ironworkers just burn rod, but the cert stack is massive. On the welding side, I personally have my AWS D1.1 structural certs for standard Stick, NR-232 and NR-233 flux core, and dual shield stainless steel, capped off with a 6GR pipe certificate for restricted field joints. On top of that, I hold certified OSHA/ASME Qualified Rigger and Crane Signaling credentials, along with TVA training certificates. It takes that exact mix of heavy rigging skills and elite puddle control to safely hang and weld heavy structural iron. I appreciate your channel a lot and particularly I respect the transparency of this video in particular. Keep up the good work!!

So cool to see you step out a little. Just kinda proves that each craft has stuff to teach the other. If we push pride aside gently, we all win.

Here in the boilermakers we’ve been doing stainless plate to inconel liner with a quarter inch of carbon under it. That stainless stick uphill is a skill I envy.

It’d be cool to see a 1/2” sch80 6g 304ss video, I see it very often In the sanitary and process tubing jobs. Great video Austin!

Esab rod is great for position. For the test you can try 5/64 for the first pass. It dont have a lot of flux. 3/32 for the cap and uphill you go left 2 second, go to the right side fast, stay again 2 second. You will have a consistent bead without undercut

That 6G test is no joke. In real fabrication shops, skill matters, but so does keeping equipment stable and downtime low. Reliable monitoring and connectivity can make a big difference on the production floor.

I spent 19 years fabricating highway sign structures. Pipe was 99% of our work. Everything from 1" all the way to 36" diameter. All welds were GMAW spray transfer with 98/2 argon/oxygen mix gas. Standard weld tests were 3" and 6" 6G pipe tests. I'd love to here your thoughts on taking a 6G pipe test with a process that can't do vertical (at least going by WPS).
