It's not my dream game, but I wanted to make a relatively ambitious farming/ community sim as my first game. Thanks in part to your advice, instead I'm going to break it up and have each main system (farming, cooking, social etc) be its own standalone game on Itch, and once I've done those, bring it together into the game I wanted to make. (Assuming at that time I even still want to make it.) Thanks for your practical advice and for not sugarcoating things!

Handing my small prototype game (first time in 4+ years) to my friends while watching this video. You guys changed my world and I finally started making steps, thanks!

I've very much transitioned to seeing making games as a rewarding hobby but not something I can ever hope to profit from. At the end of the day I have to ask myself do I think it's worth spending my time on regardless of how anyone would feel about what I create. There are people who have devoted 15+ years to making a single game. They're the real inspiration. If you're lucky of course people will love your game too.

One of my mentors in the past taught me "It's easier to steer a moving ship than one sitting still." And that applies in so many areas. Another expression I've heard is about how if you weren't embarrassed by the 1st version of your product, you waited too long to launch.

This video is full of wisdom that I think only comes with the experience you've developed over the past couple years at BiteMe. And that's exactly what I did too, with my first game - just upload it to Itch. No marketing, no expectations, I just wanted to learn the process and PRODUCE something! And even then I carried it a lot further than probably it needed to be. But clearing that hurdle makes it so much easier to make a better 2nd game.

So many great tips in this video. I'm in a lucky position, as I've been practicing art for over 20 years, some in class, most self learned. I also have 2 years of experience in graphic design, a dozen in music theory and making, 3 years of software engineering and 4 years of digital communication, 2 years game dev college, and a lifetime of game addiction until recently. My first game release on Steam is planned for this year, and I've never felt more grateful for the life I've been capable of living that let me attain all of these skills. I hope to see you guys doing well on the other side of this!

If every single object isn’t perfectly laid out in memory for max efficiency while looping you’re not a real gamedev 😤
