one area that is vital to this discussion is the cost of getting into a home these days compared to previous generations. in california, a man used to be able to by a home working as a cattle-hand or a teacher. those days are long gone and that impacts motivation, family development, and family unity.
and btw gavin- that was actually a pretty good podcast.

Reeves is spot on across the board. Iron John by Robert Bly is a good starting point for how a regime of true masculinity might look. Here's a challenging one for the American left - it takes a man to raise a man, just as it takes a woman to raise a woman. Boys and girls obviously need their mothers and fathers, but true masculinity can only be engendered by men. We need a culture of male systems that nurture and grow boys into responsible, strong, integrated men.

Reeves’ point about HEAL is one of those rare “everyone wins” ideas. Surprised it’s not talked about more.

Good, smart, intelligible conversation that must be a core part of any tenable path forward for a sane, equitable, sustainable society. Not discussed here - the innate differences and needs of boys and men, creating and allowing a culture of masculinity that's not emergent from or dependent on feminism, but independently formed from and emergent of the character and characteristics of being a man.

A huge reason for wage stagnation is the hit to the middle class after worker's--just broadly--have been barred from unionizing. Where once workers' unions protected and uplifted the average worker, especially blue collar workers, now there's just a giant corporate footprint where our rights got smeared into the dirt and our wages and benefits thrown back 50 years. Solve some of this, and you've solved some of the sorrows of the modern man.

Super cool conversation IMO. Lots of very astute observations and a really socioculturally and historically self-aware veracity that I personally felt was very effective.

Some other people here seem to disagree, but I wanted to share this thought I had. I really like the points about men losing the playbook to masculinity, so to speak. I feel like that's actually an incredibly strong point that has made me re-evaluate a lot of the ways I see some of my peers.
