I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding how the advisors around Trump think about tariffs. It's not about bringing manufacturing home it is about being a (relatively) stealthy tax on Americans (and disproportionately impacting the less wealthy) which can fund tax transfers to the wealthy. It's a scam which is no surprise concerning your President.

That lunacy motivates reciprocity. The US has possibly millions of unregistered workers in farming, food production, and construction. They work in slave-like conditions. Are we really discussing this seriously? This is a subject for a psychiatrist or a sociologist specialised in cults.

The fact that the administration is trying to destroy Canada via economic means makes the United States a malicious bully. The fact that the legislative branch of the US government is too spineless to stand up to Trump and prevent things that they're ostensibly opposed to makes the United States a nation of pathetic cowards
